Hotness

Hey Summer, 'sup.

It's nice and all that you are finally here. We were awaiting you for a pretty long time and at some occasions weren't really sure if you'd make it. So we're glad that you did. And, I'm sure you think you're big stuff flexing all your hotness all-round, but hey I have an idea; how about you come and strut your stuff in November or December? Do battle with that Winter dude? I'm sure we'll all love to see you knock out Winter with all your hotness! What? No I'm not being weird....Give you a good reason? Well let's just say you're not too high on the popularity scale these days. Yeah, unfortunately...that's right. I'm hearing a lot of murmuring on the grapevine that you're not all that as you've been hyped up to be. Sort of like the grass is greener thing? Yeah, I knew you'd understand. You're not all just hot air up there are ya, not like they say. So think about it. It's a never-been-imagined publicity coup - you challenging Winter. Imagine the benefits, the popularity you'll be reaping, noone would have imagined or expected it, and just when the favour might tilt Winter's way - you come along. Yeah, yeah I hear the icecream truck too. Yeah, I look forward to seeing you in December or sometime too.

Peace out, yo.

Insploration

What makes a person who has dedicated every moment of their life to the one they love decide that death is actually the only way to make that person appreciate it?

They say that whoever it is, who'd compel such an action, isn't worth it. Perhaps not. What is it in love that makes a person unable to cope without the other? Is sadness then another indicator for our capacity to survive as a living entity, like fear? Is sadness a red light that tells us that it's time to cut loose, to move on, to remove the shackles which tie us together? Because if that is true, why has love itself become synonymous with love? It defies understanding.

But sadness doesn't mean red light - stop. It isn't black or white. Sadness as an emotion becomes a mode of communication. A sign held up to the one who should care: "please care". Please be the one who cares enough when I cry. Please be the one who'd hold my hand when I need you. Please.

Since when did love go from want to need? Since when was need and want mutually exclusive? They intermingle, inexplicably. Inexplicable is what defines love. It defies understanding, it defies measure. Escaping the breadth of scientific postulate, philosophical principle. Beyond common sense.

Is this insanity, then?

Movies - Review

Okay so it goes without saying that if I am on vacation I'd be watching some movies. I'm going to give you my own two or three cents worth of what I thought about what I have watched lately. Obviously, I'm not going to provide any spoilers, so don't close the window just yet, if you're the kind who spooks easily about movie plots being given away. So here we go. Tan tanaaaa.

Aashiqui 2:

Definitely worth a watch, and I would even hazard watching it again - it's good. Now what you need to keep in mind is that when I rate how I like a movie, I do so with my emotional rating system, meaning that how I like a movie is about how I relate to it on a personal level. So this won't be true about you watching the same said movie. I have an even greater attachment to this movie because I watched it with my best friend, and he was telling me how much the heroine was like me throughout the movie. That too, we had a great time making fun of Aditya Roy Kapoor for the first quarter (he needs to hire a better sunglasses stylist). I absolutely loved Shraddha Kapoor's character, and this being NOT her first debut leads us to why I backtracked to watch her actual debut, which I will review below. Aditya Kapoor - I disliked him quite a lot. I don't know what it is, I had liked him in his other movies prior, but I guess I can fairly say that it was entirely his character that I disliked immensely. Such a selfish and weak man. Pissed me off, grrr. GRRR. But ironically, the way this movie plays out is what makes it entirely such a blockbuster. Resonations of Rockstar still abound and this movie reaps in the fanbase regarding that market for the theme of tragic art.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani:

You might remember my preview post about this movie, wherein I stated that I wasn't really so enthusiastic about watching this movie (anymore), because frankly it was overhyped and the promos already seemed to slate the movie as way too predictable. Well then I got reminded that knowing the plot isn't everything. It's the journey, not the destination. And that's what this movie proved to emphasize. I liked it. It was actually pretty nice. My main reason for wanting to watch it was obviously my favourite actor, Ranbir Kapoor. His performance was OK, not that he didn't try or anything; when he acts he really does act. But his character had so many echoes of previous characters he'd already played. There were reflections of his Prem, from Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani; Raj, from Bachna Ae Haseeno; Barfi, from Barfi. That said, there isn't anything truly wrong about these personas (they were awesome when they lived), but the dead ringer for Ranbir's ability to carve out that unique niche of a character wasn't exactly there. I will say for the record though, he totally, totally, pulls that close beard off (see Illahi song). The main reason this movie resonated with me is all due to Deepika. Other than her performance in Cocktail, I think this is my fave avatar of hers. She totally pulled her Naina off. (Does the coincidence of a nerdy girl wearing glasses being called Naina occur to anyone else? Preity Z in Kal Ho Na Ho, anyone?). As for the supporting actors, I never liked Kalki before really (I always thought she was aptly named. 'Horse' face?) but I liked her character thoroughly, and thought she was actually quite beautiful, along with Deepika. Aditya Kapoor seemed to have simply walked off the sets of Aashiqui 2 right onto the sets of Yeh Jawaani; his character is pretty much the same. The ending was justifyably predictable but as an expected conclusion, sort of like sinking the ball in the net; satisfying.

Oz the Great and Powerful:

A nice movie... if you remember the classic original Wizard of Oz, that's what makes this movie so wonderfully enticing, because there are so many references that put the glee right into you when you recognize them. The graphics and scenery are reminiscent of the 2010 Alice in Wonderland. I also got flashbacks of NZ in Lord of the Rings. Overall, the movie was a delightful entertaining watch.

Luv Ka The End:

Shraddha Kapoor's debut. As I mentioned, I went back to watch this 2011 movie due to loving her in Aashiqui 2. While it is said that the movie is a remake or is inspired by some English movies, I still enjoyed watching it. I had so many moments where I had to laugh out loud. Watching SK in this younger roop was also pretty enjoyable compared to her roop in A2. She definitely has great potential (maybe she picked up pointers from her dad). I'm not going to say much more about this film but that if you want a light youthful comedy then watch it.

Courage

Be bold; be brave. This has always and forever been you. Nobody can change this.. not even you. Now today is your day, the day of deliverance where you go into enemy territory and be the bravest man you can be. Life or death can't stop what is about to happen. Someway, some form of the truth will seep out. Fear will be there but those that really love you will also nurture you and build you back up in your time of retreat. Going to a far off place to discover new and exciting things is just your beginning. You can say it's your destiny. What possesses a man to just up and leave the environment he has always known? You are conquering your life - don't let anything stop you.

A Somewhat Girly Post -- Homemade Exfoliator and Nails

As you can tell, I haven't been around much lately - I've been vacationing the last week and will be for the next while yet. I've decided that June is definitely one of my favourite months right along with May. I decided this while just standing at my bedroom window this morning enjoying the lovely sunshine and quiet that accompanied the cool morning breeze through the house. Yes - May and June, and then the end of August and September: those months where the intermingling of cool and warmth are at its optimal.

I've spent the time just enjoying quiet moments in the sun or in the cool shade of the backyard. Spending quality time with my baby kits. Hanging out with good friends and catching up with old ones (who also are good friends, don't get me wrong).

One of these friends has a makeup obsession like never seen before. And that's pretty much all she just loves talking to me about - and said that she was waiting to get time to talk to me about makeup because I was at one time a makeup artist and consultant. But my obsession with makeup has waned. I've let most of the makeup I have grow old and expire, and I keep and wear just the basics now.

Now I'm totally into fresh and natural. And that's actually part of the reason why I decided to blog today. As you might be aware, Layla's blog was opened up under the label of "GLAM: gossip, love and makeup" and was for a little while a place where a few of us shared beauty tips and stuff. I shared one post about one of my "natural remedies", apple cider vinegar. (Edit:*original post moved to this blog: September 14 2013)

And since it's flipflop season, I thought let me  share another of my favourite natural treatments. My homemade exfoliator, which isn't really a big secret; if you've been reading around in this circle you'd come across it pretty much anywhere. Olive oil and sugar. People often remark on the softness (and youthfulness) of my skin. Not that I'm really that old anyway, but point in case: using my sugar scrub exfoliator (sure, haven't we come across such products sold on shelves? And at what exorbitant prices comparatively?) on my hands, feet and face regularly do the job. I always feel super sexy (okay extra super sexy, for those who raise their eyebrows) after exfoliating, and right now is one of those times.  ^.^

And with a baby kitten who loves to bite my fingers (playfully), I'm avoiding wearing nailpolish for some time now. But that doesn't mean my nails are being neglected. No! I've invested in a super multi-step buffer. What it does is file, buff, polish and shine. And the end result is a high gloss nail that's naturally shiny and healthy looking. It looks like I  have clear nailpolish on, but I don't. And it lasts for weeks or months (depending on your routine).

Both treatments don't take that much time (or $$)...and the results are akin to having spent a whole day or paycheque at a spa or salon. Oh and despite my titling this post as "a somewhat girly post"...these are things guys can do just as well. Afterall, girls like guys who take care of themselves*. ;)

*to an extent.
